Hey Everyone,
After another 10+ hour bus trip back to Santiago, George and I are safe and sound in another Hostal in Santiago. Its a relief to have a quiet room to ourselves- the trip down South to see about 30 relatives was a little overwhelming..Georgy got food poisoning (feeling better now after antibiotics from Nina), the 3 of us shared a cramped bed, and the lifestyle was much more rural. Having a hot shower is fabulous!
We are currently in Barrio Bellavista which is close to a couple universities, the National Theatre, San Cristobal (giant statue we went to), the National Zoo (going on Thursday with Nina), and various parks. The place we are staying at for the next 7 nights is called Hostal Providencia (click here for their website). We have a matrimonial bed, private bathroom, and CABLE TV! Its located 2 train stops away from Nina. She came over last night with her friend from Wesleyan who is also studying here and we all had some Chinese food and cervezas (beer=). We have since tried about 5 others kinds, so George will have to update his fave top 3 (especially after learning that the locals think Cristal is puro agua (pure water)!
Today we walked down to Pablo Neruda`s house `La Chascona`, but unfortunately it was closed. Its opened Tuesdays through Sunday so we will try again later. Neruda had three houses in Chile and we hope to go this week to the one in Santiago. The others are in Valparaiso and Isla Negra.
Tomorrow our plans are to go to the Concha y Toro vineyard (click here for their website). Mom and Dad went when they came to visit Nina and said it was awesome. We are going on a group tour, having a wine tasting, and then visiting a Wine Parque where we can do the wine and cheese thang!
Other plans this week are to go on a hike in the Andes, go out with Nina and other gringos on Thursday to an American/Gringo bar to watch the NBA playoffs, try to get to some hot springs spas, pack up, and come home!
Tomorrow we will post pics of the new Hostal, the winery, and other photos from Puerto Montt! Sorry for the delay on those :)
Tonight we are going to an 80s club to jam to old school Madonna classics and have a few drinks, should be a good time! Wish us luck haha!
Love,
Julia and George
